The ACI Secretariat, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Universiti Teknologi Brunei, jointly organized the Editor’s Workshop for ACI and Scopus in Brunei on September 6th, 2018 at the Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement Building, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. This was the first time that the ACI Secretariat co-organised this workshop in Brunei. The objectives of the event were to inform the participants about the rationale, the objectives and the activities of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) and to illustrate the journal selection criteria and the process of journal submission into the ACI database. It was hoped that this workshop would increase more understanding regarding the ACI and the journal selection criteria and also to attract more journals from Brunei to be included in the ACI database.
There were 45 participants attending the Workshop. The event was presided over by Dr. Chin Wei Keh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education Brunei who set direction for Brunei Universities to have more journals indexed in the ACI and Scopus within 5 years. Then, Dr. Abby Tan Chee Hong, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Vice President (Research), UBD presented the update on UBD journals whereas Prof.Dr. Zuruzi Abu Samah, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Research), Universiti Teknologi Brunei shared the knowledge creation and dissemination in Universiti Teknologi Beunei. Dr. Nongyao Sripromsuk, the ACI Secretariat presented the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI): what, why, how?, the Journal selection criteria for ACI, the process of journal submission into the ACI, and the ACI collaboration with international databases project. In the afternoon, the workshop on journal evaluation for the ACI inclusion was conducted. There were 4 research journals from different disciplines in the workshop for practicing evaluation against the ACI criteria.
All of the participants were eager and very interested in learning about the journal selection criteria. They showed a lot of interests in improving their existing and the new coming academic journals up to international standards. It was a very successful workshop.
