Minutes of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor’s Workshop in Lao PDR

13th March 2017 At Room 213, President Building, the National University of Laos, Lao PDR

According to the minute of the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting in Bangkok on September 10, 2015, the ACI Secretariat proposed and committed to run a workshop for editors in each member countries to create awareness of the importance of the ACI and also share the ACI journal selection criteria for better understanding among the ASEAN editors. Last year, the ACI Secretariat run 4 Editor Workshops in 4 countries, namely Cambodia (on March 18th, 2016), the Philippines (on April 1st, 2016), Malaysia (on April 19th, 2016) and Vietnam (on June 22nd, 2016). The Workshop was jointly funded by Ministry of Education or other related government agencies in each country, Thai-Journal Citation Index, and Office of Higher Education Commission of Thailand. All the 4 workshops were successful, particularly in creating better understanding of the ACI’s journal selection criteria.

This year (2017), the first and second Editor Workshops were held in Myanmar and Lao on March 6th and March 13th, 2017, respectively.

With respect to the Editor’s Workshop for ACI in Lao, it was jointly organized by the National University of Lao, the TCI Centre and the Thai Office of Higher Education Commission on March 13, 2017 at the National University of Laos. There were 31 editors, editorial team, lecturers, and supporting staff from many universities and research institutes around Lao, e.g. National University of Laos, Savannakhet University, University of Health Sciences, Academy of Political and Public Administration, National Social Science Research Institute, National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute, and National Economic Research Institute.

For the program, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phosy Chanhming, ACI Steering Committee for Lao, PDR gave an introductory remark to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Somchanh Bounphanmy, Vice President of the National University of Laos (NUOL), who delivered the Opening Remark. The next sessions in the morning related to many aspects of ASEAN Citation Index (ACI), e.g. What is ACI?, Why ACI?, Journal Selection Criteria for ACI and the ACI Website where Dr. Nongyao Sripromsuk, ACI Steering Committee for Thailand was the speaker. In the afternoon, the Editor’s workshop on “Journal evaluation for possible inclusion in the ACI” was run by Dr. Nongyao Sripromsuk and Assoc.Prof. Teerasak Markpin. It was found that, there was one journal, the Lao Medical Journal, had high potential to be indexed in the ACI after some revisions as suggested. Minutes of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor’s Workshop in Myanmar

6th March 2017 At the Diamond Jubilee Hall, Pyay Road, Yangon, Myanmar

According to the minute of the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting in Bangkok on September 10, 2015, the ACI Secretariat proposed and committed to run a workshop for editors in each member countries to create awareness of the importance of the ACI and also share the ACI journal selection criteria for better understanding among the ASEAN editors. Last year, the ACI Secretariat run 4 Editor Workshops in 4 countries, namely Cambodia (on March 18th, 2016), the Philippines (on April 1st, 2016), Malaysia (on April 19th, 2016) and Vietnam (on June 22nd, 2016). The Workshop was jointly funded by Ministry of Education or other related government agencies in each country, Thai-Journal Citation Index, and Office of Higher Education Commission of Thailand. All the 4 workshops were successful, particularly in creating better understanding of the ACI’s journal selection criteria.

With respect to the Editor’s Workshop for ACI in Myanmar entitled “Research Journal Editors’s Workshop for ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) in Myanmar", it was jointly organized by the National Education Policy Commission of Myanmar, the TCI Centre and the Thai Office of Higher Education Commission on March 6, 2017 at the Diamond Jubilee Hall, Pyay Rd., Myanmar. There were 163 editors, editorial team, lecturers, and supporting staff from many universities around Myanmar, e.g. Arts & Science University, University of Medicines, University of Engineering, University of Computer Sciences, University of Education, University of Economics, Yangon University of Foreign Languages, and Education Colleges, attended the Workshop.

For the program of the Editor’s Workshop, Dr. Myo Myint, Chairman of the National Education Policy Commission delivered the opening remark, followed by the introductory remark delivered by Dr. Yi Yi Maw, Pro-Rector of Yangon University of Foreign Languages who also serves as the ACI Steering Committee for Myanmar. The next sessions in the morning related to many aspects of ASEAN Citation Index (ACI), e.g. What is ACI?, Why ACI?, Journal Selection Criteria for ACI and ACI Website. The speakers were Prof. Dr. Narongrit Sombatsompop, Chairman of the ACI Steering Committee, and Dr. Nongyao Sripromsuk, ACI Steering Committee for Thailand. In the afternoon, Prof.Dr. Myint Lwin, Rector of Kyaukse University and the ACI Steering Committee shared his experiences on the 4th ACI Steering Committee Meeting where he attended with the participants. The last session was the Editor’s workshop on “Journal evaluation for possible inclusion in the ACI” where Prof.Dr. Narongrit Sombatsompop and his team were the speakers and facilitators. It was found that, there was one journal, the Myanmar Health Science Research Journal, had high potential to be indexed in the ACI after making some revisions as suggested. Minutes of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor’s Workshop in Vietnam

22 June 2016 At the National Economics University Hall, Hai Ba Trung Dist, Ha Noi, Vietnam

According to the minute of the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting in Bangkok, the ACI Secretariat proposed and committed to run a workshop for editors in each member countries to create awareness of the importance of the ACI and also share the ACI journal selection criteria for better understanding among the ASEAN editors. The fourth ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor’s Workshop was scheduled to be held in Vietnam on Wednesday, 22th of June 2016 at the National Economics University Hall No 207 Giai Phong, Hai Ba Trung Dist, Ha Noi, Vietnam. The half-day workshop was jointly funded by Ministry of Education, Thai-Journal Citation Index, and Office of Higher Education Commission of Thailand.

There were 80 editors and universities’ representatives in Vietnam participated in the event. Regarding the speakers and facilitators from the TCI, there were 4 persons, namely, Prof Dr Narongrit Sombatsompop, Assoc Prof Teerasak Markpin, Mr Santi Ittiritmechai and Dr Sithipong Mahathanabodee. Minutes of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor’s Workshop in the Philippines

1 April 2016 At the Midas Hotel and Casino, Pasay City, Manila, the Philippines

According to the minute of the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting in Bangkok, the ACI Secretariat proposed and committed to run a workshop for editors in each member countries to create awareness of the importance of the ACI and also share the ACI journal selection criteria for better understanding among the ASEAN editors. The second ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor’s Workshop was scheduled to be held in the Philippines on Friday, 1st of April 2016 at the Midas Hotel and Casino, Pasay City, Manila. The Workshop was jointly funded by Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines, Thai-Journal Citation Index, and Office of Higher Education Commission of Thailand.

There were 104 editors and universities’ representatives in the Philippines participated in the event. Regarding the speakers and facilitators from the TCI, there were 3 persons, namely, Prof Dr Narongrit Sombatsompop, Assoc Prof Teerasak Markpin, and Mr Santi Ittiritmechai. Minutes of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor’s Workshop in Cambodia

18 March 2016 At the Phnom Penh Hotel, Cambodia

According to the minute of the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting in Bangkok, the ACI Secretariat proposed and committed to run a workshop for editors in each member countries to create awareness of the importance of the ACI and also share the ACI journal selection criteria for better understanding among the ASEAN editors. The first ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor’s Workshop was scheduled to be held in Cambodia on Friday 18th of March 2016 at the Phnom Penh Hotel. The Workshop was jointly funded by Higher Education of Cambodia, Thai-Journal Citation Index, and Office of Higher Education Commission of Thailand.

There were 50 editors and university representatives attended the Workshop. It was opened by Dr.NITH Bunlay, Deputy Director General of Higher Education & ACI Steering Committee Member, Cambodia and H.E.Dr.Touch Visalsok, Under-secretary of State, MoEYS. The speakers were Prof Dr Narongrit Sombatsompop, Chairman of the ACI Steering Committee, Mr. Inn Beng Lee from Elsevier who talk about “Scopus Journal Selection Criteria and Widening Research Collaboration for ASEAN” and Mr Santi Ittiritmeechai, programmer of the TCI.
